Can movers come the same day in San Diego? Yes. Packman Moving takes same-day jobs whenever a crew and truck are free, and in most cases we can be at your door within two to four hours of your call. Same-day availability is decided by what is already on the schedule that morning, so the earlier you call, the better your odds. What we can usually do same day

Most same-day requests fall into a handful of jobs that a two- or three-person crew can finish in a single shift:

• Studios and one-bedroom apartments — typically 2 to 4 hours door to door within San Diego.
• Single-item moves — a couch, a bed, a treadmill, a safe, a refrigerator.
• Furniture delivery and store pickups — collecting a purchase from a warehouse, showroom or marketplace seller and getting it into the room you want it in.
• Storage runs — loading into or out of a storage unit, including units we hold for you.
• Loading or unloading only — you have the truck, you need the muscle.
• Appliance moves — refrigerators, washers, dryers and stoves, subject to the disconnect rules below.

What usually cannot be done same day

Being honest about this saves everyone a wasted afternoon. These jobs need lead time:

• Full three- and four-bedroom homes. These run 8 to 12 hours and need a crew booked in advance, not squeezed into a gap.
• Long-distance and out-of-state moves. These are scheduled against a route, not a day.
• Pianos. Upright and grand piano moves need specific equipment and a crew trained on it.
• Buildings requiring a certificate of insurance or a reserved elevator. Most downtown high-rises and HOA buildings need 24 to 72 hours’ notice from their management, and that clock is not ours to control. If you are moving into a condo, call the building before you call us.
• Anything needing a street permit. Some San Diego blocks require a temporary no-parking permit for a truck, which cannot be issued the same morning.

What same-day moving costs

Same-day work is charged at our normal hourly rate — $120 to $200 per hour for a crew and truck, depending on crew size — with a two-hour minimum. There is no emergency surcharge for booking on the day. What changes the total is the same as any other move: how much you have, how far the carry is from door to truck, stairs, and whether an elevator is involved.

A studio apartment moved across San Diego on the same day typically lands between $350 and $600. A single-item delivery is usually the two-hour minimum. We give you the number before the truck rolls, not after.

The realistic cut-off

Call before 2:00pm for the best chance of a crew reaching you the same day. We answer from 8:00am to 8:00pm, seven days a week. After about 4:00pm, most same-day requests become first-thing-tomorrow jobs — which we will happily book, and which usually go more smoothly anyway.

How to make a same-day move go well

You will not have time to pack properly, so put your effort where it counts:

• Clear the path first. Hallways, stairwells and the space in front of the door. A crew that is stepping over things is a crew on the clock.
• Empty drawers of anything breakable or valuable — documents, medication, jewelry, chargers. Clothes can stay in.
• Unplug and defrost. A refrigerator needs several hours to defrost and drain. If yours is still cold and full, tell us on the phone — we will plan around it.
• Disconnect water lines yourself, or tell us in advance. California rules mean our crews do not disconnect gas lines at all. Washer hoses and ice-maker lines we can handle; gas requires a licensed technician.
• Have parking sorted. A spot for a 16- to 26-foot truck close to the door saves more time and money than anything else on this list.
• Know where things go at the other end. Deciding on the landing costs real money.

Where we cover

Same-day service runs across San Diego County — Downtown San Diego, Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach, Mission Beach, La Jolla, Chula Vista, Poway and Rancho Bernardo. North County — Carlsbad, Oceanside, San Marcos, Escondido and Del Mar — depends more heavily on where the crew finishes its previous job, so call early.
